Welcome! This is a website for parents, teachers, students and others interested in communication disorders and school-based speech-language therapy. I am married to Walt Harper. He is an RFID Development and Technical Services Manager for SMI. We have two children; Olivia (14) and Ethan (almost 12) and a black lab named Luna. I completed my undergraduate degree in communication disorders at Appalachian State University; and I also received my master's degree from ASU in May 2001. This is my 19th year as a school based SLP. I spent the first 17 years in Stokes County, and am currently traveling between 3 schools in WSFCS. I have been a RRtCP trainer and on the district Autism Coaching Team. I have also supervised CF's and interns throughout the years. A school-based SLP has many roles. Here are some of mine: observe, screen, evaluate, treatment as a part of special education, interventionist in regular education, consultation with other teachers/therapists, collaborate, train, plan, document, prevent, organize classroom environment, develop plans, research, lead and participate in continuing education. I am trained in many programs used to treat communication disorders PECS, PODD, LIPS, Zones of Regulation, and have experience programming and using AAC devices. I am a member of both the state and national speech hearing associations NCSHLA and ASHA.
